KILAUEA POINT NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
Location and Hours of Operation

How to get there:
Kilauea Point is located on the northernmost tip of Kauai. Driving north up Kuhio Highway (#56) from Lihue and Kapaa you will arrive in Kilauea just past mile marker 23. There is a large sign on the side of the road announcing the town and the Kilauea Lighthouse. Make a sharp right-hand turn at the Shell gas station, on to Kolo Road.

Driving South on Highway 56 from Hanalei and Princeville you will arrive in Kilauea just past mile marker 24 and Banana Joe's fruit stand. There is a large sign on the side of the road announcing the town and the Kilauea Lighthouse. Make a left hand turn at the Shell gas station, on to Kolo Road.

Stay on Kolo Road for approximately 100 yards, then take your first left hand turn onto Kilauea Road. There is a very small blue "Lighthouse" sign on the corner.

Proceed straight down that road approximately 2 miles, until it ends in a turn-around with signs for the lighthouse. The entrance to the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge is the last driveway on the left.

You may park there to view the lighthouse, the ocean and all of the birds, but to enter the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge you must drive down the last driveway on the road. Because the driveway is narrow and winding, you cannot walk down to the lighthouse.

There is ample parking in upper and lower parking lots at the end of the driveway. Park there and take a short walk past the Visitor's Center and out to the Kilauea Lighthouse. Refuge volunteers can drive disabled visitors out to the lighthouse in a golf cart. Contact any staff member for assistance.
